CPM S35 VN - Oversized and Descaled
 
CPM S35VN stainless steel is created using Crucible Particle Metal (CPM) technology, which evenly distributes carbides (the hard particles) in the blade, allowing the blade to retain a sharp and durable edge.  It is a martensitic stainless steel designed to offer improved toughness over CPM S30V.   It is also easier to machine and polish than CPM S30V. Its chemistry has been rebalanced so that it forms some niobium carbides along with vanadium and chromium carbides.  
In its annealed state, S35-VN is easily machined to a degree, which is one reason it is a choice among makers who do a portion of their cold work on a CNC or when used for folders.
When considering options, keep a special place for those times S35-VN may be a top choice for a solid knife with performance written all over it.
