15N20 is a high carbon, high nickel alloy steel most commonly used with 1080 or 1095 to create pattern welded or Damascus steel.  It makes up the bright layers in the Damascus pattern, as the nickel in the steel resists the ferric-chloride used to etch blades. It is extremely tough and versatile making it a great steel to use on it's own as well.
